Join Our Circus School!

At Island Circus Space, we run a performance-focused, non-competitive circus school for students of all ages!

We have classes for students at every stage of their Circus Journey. Whether they are trying out circus for the very first time, building on previous circus experience and growing their skillset, or working towards a career in Circus Arts, our program offers instruction across all disciplines at all levels.

Our 2026/27 Season runs from September 14th - June 24th

There are no classes over Winter Break, Spring Break, and on Statutory Holidays.

Prior to your class beginning, you will receive all relevant key dates including closed studio days and performances.

TODDLER AND ME CIRCUS

Our TODDLER AND ME program is a once a week, full season (September - June) class for families who are curious about circus, and are looking for a fun and explorative physical activity to try together!

This class is a great way to introduce your child to our space, meet other families, and try some circus yourself. This class includes wiggles, rolls, and jumps to say hello to our bodies, time to explore our circus props and toys, partner acrobatics for you and your child to try together with us and at home, and an introduction to hammock and trapeze. Join us for some swinging, spinning, and upside-down time!

This class can be a stepping stone to our programs for older students or just something fun to do together. We’re excited to meet your family!

  • Students in this class must be accompanied by one adult for every class. It is not required that the same adult attend every week, you can take turns!

  • This class has no prerequisites and is open to all students in the specified age group.

CORE CIRCUS

These CORE CIRCUS programs are once a week, full-season (September - June) classes, and are divided by age only. These classes are open to all levels, and students will be split into groups to participate in lessons with students of a similar level of experience. Circus is a strength-building and confidence-building activity. This class is an opportunity for students to challenge themselves physically and creatively, try new things, and discover what they are capable of in the world of circus!

Our Core Circus classes deliver instruction in:

  • Floor: handstands, tumbling/acro, partner acrobatics, group pyramids

  • Object Manipulation: juggling, plate spinning, flower sticks, diabolo, unicycling

  • Aerials: silks, trapeze, hoop

    Lessons and disciplines vary based on age level, some disciplines are not introduced until Hawks.

Students in these classes will work individually and in groups to create Circus Acts to be performed for their loved ones at intervals throughout the season.

CORE CIRCUS classes do not have pre-requisites, or minimum attendance requirements, but students with consistent attendance will have the most opportunities for success, especially in the act creation process.

Students in these classes must follow instructions, cooperate with others, and conduct themselves safely. Hummingbirds must be ready to attend classes independently.

INTENSIVE CIRCUS

This INTENSIVE CIRCUS program is our twice a week, full season (September - June) class for students grades 5 - 12 who are eager to increase their weekly hours in the space to accelerate the pace of their training.

This program is for students who are are driven to be doing more of everything it takes to grow their circus skills (including strength & flexibility training) and are ready to dive deeper into the performance aspect of circus. This program helps student to build a broader inventory of skills on the floor, in the air, and in front of an audience.

Students in this class will work individually and in groups to create Circus Acts to be performed for their loved ones at intervals throughout the season. Students must be committed to maintaining a level of attendance that does not interfere with the group’s ability to create and rehearse choreography. Students training at this level are expected to prioritize circus during performance preparation time, and adhere to all relevant policies regarding communication of planned absences.

Students in this class are ready to be challenged, try new things, and demonstrate a positive, independent work ethic even when not receiving direct one-on-one attention from a coach. A student’s mindset, communication skills, and respect for their own safety and the safety of others are all considered when evaluating a student’s readiness for this class, alongside the physical pre-requisites.

Student's repertoire of skill in at least 2 disciplines (spanning at least 2 categories) must extend beyond the pre-requisite level.

    • disciplines: acro/tumbling, handstands, partner acrobatics, flexibility/contortion

  • Object Manipulation

    • disciplines: juggling, unicycling, balancing, spinning

  • Aerials

    • disciplines: silks, hoop, trapeze

ONSTAGE CIRCUS

These ONSTAGE CIRCUS programs are our twice-thrice a week, full season (September - June) classes for students grades 7 - 12 who demonstrate proficiency across multiple disciplines, advanced act creation and performance skills, and are ready to participate in the creation and presentation of a complete circus production.

These programs are designed to deliver specialized training to students who are interested in developing as circus artists, including those who intend to pursue post-secondary circus education. Students in these classes will have opportunities to gain performance experience throughout the season, and will be cast in the annual Spring Show.

These programs require a high level of commitment and dedication, and are for students who are choosing to prioritize circus over other activities.

Enrollment in these programs is dependent on whether any spots are currently available. All students currently enrolled in INTENSIVE CIRCUS will be notified if either of the Ensembles are open for enrollment, and will be invited to participate in an evaluation if they are interested in pursuing a spot.
